Daily activities are chosen by children and guided by the teachers knowledge of their interests and abilities. Our daily routine includes plenty of time for indoor and outdoor explorations. Children are offered a wide range of play-based, developmentally appropriate activities to choose from. This allows a diverse group of children to get their individual needs met while learning the important skill of cooperation.
A wide variety of toys and activities are available to the children to help them learn through play. Their games are designed to introduce pre-math concepts, language skills, science, health, safety, nutrition, and character development. Our outdoor play areas provide opportunities for children to explore sand, water, and the outdoor environment. They gain strength, agility and confidence, and experience active and imaginative play that enlivens their natural curiosity. Special teachers regularly come to visit to enrich our program by sharing their talents, such as music, dance, art, yoga, and other areas of particular interest to the children.
At Harmony Preschool we believe that children learn best through play. We encourage your child’s excitement about learning, exploring, and caring for the world around them. We celebrate diversity and respect each child’s individual growth process. We create child-centered learning experiences, support children in making their own play choices, and encourage their inborn enthusiasm for learning and growing. Learning through play supports the development of a child’s mind, body, and spirit. We teach with the whole child in mind.
Because we have a small number of children, we can give lots of individual attention to each child. With knowledge of developmental stages and understanding of each unique child, we design new activities to be a little bit challenging, but also successful. We weave together a wide range of approaches to meet the needs of different learning styles.
We follow “best practices in the field” supported by published scientific research in child development, and methods drawn from leaders in our field such as Erickson, Gardner (Multiple Intelligences), Montessori, Rogers, Steiner (Waldorf), and Reggio Emilia.
Harmony Preschool is committed to providing a healthy and safe environment for children:
